ARLINGTON - - UT Arlington volleyball coach Diane Seymour will take her Mavericks into four tournaments in the 2008 non-conference season - including two in the friendly confines of Texas Hall - and compete against all three Dallas-Fort Worth squads before opening Southland Conference play.
Seymour has released UT Arlington's schedule as the Mavericks try to prepare a young team for a run at the Southland Conference title.
UTA went 19-11 last season and captured the third seed in the conference tournament. The Mavericks lost five seniors off that squad. To get a team of eight freshmen and three sophomores ready for the Southland Conference season, UTA will play in four tournaments and in non-conference matches against TCU and SMU from Aug. 29 to Sept. 20.
UTA opens the season Aug. 29 at The University of North Texas Tournament against Jackson State at 4:30 p.m.
On Sept. 3, the Mavericks head to SMU for a 7 p.m. match against SMU. Then, a trip to California for a Sept. 5-6 tournamament at The University off San Francisco. Highlighting that trip is a match against national power UC-Santa Barbara on Sept. 6.
The Mavs open the home season Sept. 10 against TCU at 7 p.m.
On consecutive weekends following the home opener, UTA plays in the UT Arlington Hilton Invitational Sept. 12-13 and the Sept. 19-20 UT Arlington Holiday Inn Invitational.
Conference play followswith the opener against UTSA in San Antonio at 7 p.m.
